Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On November 6, XPENG officially opened pre-sales for the range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) version of its X9 MPV, introducing two trims priced at 350,000 yuan and 370,000 yuan.

Positioned as a seven-seat premium MPV, the new model builds on XPENG's "Starship Cabin" design philosophy, combining futuristic styling, upgraded performance, and a remarkable 1,602 km combined range that promises to reshape expectations in the high-end MPV segment.

As the latest addition to XPENG's MPV lineup, the X9 REEV retains the futuristic DNA of the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version while introducing refinements tailored to its extended-range powertrain. The redesigned front end features a larger air intake that enhances both thermal management and visual dynamism. Beneath it, a dual-section grille with active shutters optimizes airflow, automatically closing at high speeds to reduce drag. These enhancements help achieve an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.237 Cd—balancing aerodynamic efficiency with a sportier aesthetic.

From the side, the X9 REEV adopts a sleek floating-roof design achieved through concealed A-, B-, C-, and D-pillars, creating a lighter, more elegant silhouette. Muscular wheel arches and 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels add a dose of athletic flair. Measuring 5,316 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,785 mm in height, with a 3,160 mm wheelbase, the X9 REEV is slightly longer than its pure electric counterpart—allowing for the range extender's layout without compromising interior space. At the rear, a frameless panoramic window complements the fastback profile, merging practicality with sculpted aesthetics. XPENG also introduces a new "Aurora Green" exterior color for added personalization.

Inside, the X9 REEV maintains XPENG's premium tech credentials with a dual-display setup comprising a 17.3-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8295P chip, the infotainment system promises fast and seamless operation. The cabin pairs rose-red and beige tones with Ayous wood trim, exuding a warm, upscale atmosphere that blends sophistication with comfort.

The cabin's ergonomics and comfort have been significantly enhanced. A compact multifunctional steering wheel provides intuitive control over key driving and assistance systems, while the second-row “zero-gravity” seats offer adjustable recline settings via integrated armrest buttons. Rear passengers also benefit from a 21.4-inch entertainment display for an immersive in-car cinema experience. The third row supports multiple configurations, including 4/6 split folding and reclining options. Even with all three rows in use, cargo space remains practical, while a flat floor design maximizes versatility for larger loads.

At the heart of the X9 REEV lies XPENG's newly developed "Kunpeng Super Range Extension System," built on an advanced 800V high-voltage platform. The powertrain pairs a 1.5T DAM15NTE range extender (rated at 110 kW) with a 210 kW electric motor, delivering strong, seamless acceleration. The result is a highly efficient combination of power, endurance, and refinement that sets a new benchmark in the segment.

XPENG claims the X9 REEV delivers class-leading range and efficiency. Its 63.3 kWh battery enables up to 452 km of battery-powered driving under CLTC conditions—enough for a week of typical commuting on a single charge. With a 60-liter fuel tank added to the mix, the combined range soars to 1,602 km, effectively eliminating range anxiety for long-distance travel. The 800V platform also supports 5C ultra-fast charging, offering a 150% improvement in charging speed over traditional 400V systems. With fuel consumption rated at just 6.4L per 100 km, the X9 REEV strikes a rare balance between performance and energy efficiency.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
