SMM Steel, November 4 – According to SMM statistics, the estimated total shipments of mainstream markets this week were 245,800 mt, up 31.51% WoW. By market:

Table 1: Comparison of Mainstream Market Arrivals

Data source: SMM Steel

Shanghai market: Shipments in the Shanghai market decreased WoW. Specifically, the reduction mainly came from steel mills in Northeast and South China. Some mills recorded a large shipment increase last week, but pulled back this week. Looking ahead, recent hot-rolled coil prices have been fluctuating at lows, spot cargo transactions performed poorly, and market ordering enthusiasm remained moderate. Arrivals in the Shanghai market are expected to drop back slightly next week.

Lecong market: Shipments to Lecong increased significantly WoW. Specifically, arrivals of resources from North China increased WoW, and mainstream resources also rose WoW. This was mainly due to the previous typhoon impact, which slowed down steel mill shipments, but recently accelerated transport resumed. Going forward, prices in South China still lag behind East China, and some mills still show certain shipment preferences. The increase in short-term arrivals is expected to be unsustainable.

Silicon Metal Price Center Remained in the Doldrums [SMM Silicon Industry Weekly Review]
[Silicon Metal Price Center Remained in the Doldrums]: This week, the silicon metal market stayed weak, with the transaction center for some silicon metal grades edging lower. As of April 2, SMM east China prices were oxygen-blown #553 silicon at 9,000-9,200 yuan/mt, down 100 yuan/mt WoW; 441# silicon at 9,300-9,400 yuan/mt, down 50 yuan/mt WoW; and 3303# silicon at 10,100-10,300 yuan/mt, down 100 yuan/mt WoW. In the futures market, the most-traded silicon metal contract remained weak, with the SI2605 contract closing at 8,300 yuan/mt on Thursday, down 435 yuan/mt WoW. Spot declines were narrower than futures prices, and the advantage in supplier shipments shifted from silicon enterprises to trading firms engaging in both spot and futures market. During the week, market prices were under pressure, while procurement volume from some downstream users and export traders increased, with transactions in some grades remaining moderate.
