Leapmotor C16 maintains its lead for 14 consecutive months among mid-to-large SUVs priced under 200,000 yuan.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 30, Leapmotor announced that deliveries of its C16 SUV had now exceeded 100,000 units, maintaining its lead for 14 consecutive months among mid-to-large SUVs priced under 200,000 yuan.

The Leapmotor C16 made its market debut in June 28, 2024, and within the first 48 hours, pre-orders reportedly topped 5,200 units. Leapmotor rolled out the refreshed C16 of 2026 model year this June, offering both five-seat and six-seat configurations. The new model focuses on improving driving range, assisted-driving tech, and cabin comfort — core areas of competition in the Chinese NEV market. Priced between 151,800 yuan and 181,800 yuan, the update brings more than 70 enhancements as the new model continued to target China’s competitive mid-size SUV segment.

Design-wise, the 2026 C16 keeps a familiar look that blends common EV styling cues — including a full-width light bar and flush door handles. It measures 4,915mm long, 1,905mm wide, and 1,770mm high, with a 2,825mm wheelbase. Most trims now feature roof-mounted LiDAR paired with Qualcomm’s 8,650 driving-assist chip, replacing the Nvidia Orin-X used in the 2024 version. Leapmotor claims the system supports navigation-based cruise functions and memory parking in complex lots.

Inside, all variants include a 10.25-inch instrument display and a 14.6-inch central screen running Leapmotor’s updated OS 4.0 Plus on a Snapdragon 8295 chipset. Higher-trim versions add a 15.6-inch rear entertainment screen, while lower trims only offer it bundled with other options.

The 2026 C16 sticks with rear-wheel drive. The range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) variants use a 1.5-liter four-cylinder generator paired with an electric motor delivering up to 170kW of output. In addition, the battery-powered range of REEV variant, paired with 28.4kWh/ 38.7kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, is projected to reach up to 200km/280km under the China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

The battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants are equipped with a 220kW motor delivering 360N·m of peak torque, and offer a CLTC-rated driving range of 580km or 630km depending on configuration, paired with 74.9-kWh and 81.9-kWh LFP battery packs respectively.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
