Recently, an enterprise in Guizhou reported exciting news: corrugated guardrails made from weathering steel raw material supplied by Pangang have successfully passed detection in a total of 12 full-scale vehicle crash tests across four grades—A, B, SB, and Am. This breakthrough achievement signifies that the two parties have jointly successfully developed hot-rolled high-strength weathering steel plates specifically for highway guardrails, which will facilitate the upgrade of steel used for highway guardrails in China. As critical traffic safety facilities, the material performance of highway guardrails is directly related to road safety. The industry requires guardrail materials to possess both high strength and good plasticity to ensure they are not easily damaged upon impact; they must also exhibit excellent corrosion resistance to enhance the durability of safety protection and extend their service life. In response to multiple demands such as rising safety standards, optimization of full-life-cycle costs, and the advancement of the "dual-carbon" strategy, there is an urgent need for the steel used in China's highway guardrails to transition toward high strength and plasticity, long service life, and green characteristics.
