Published: Oct 29, 2025 19:51
On October 27, an explosion occurred at the Endeavor silver, zinc and lead mine near Cobar, New South Wales, killing two workers and injuring another. It marks Australia’s first fatal mine blast since 2015. Emergency crews responded swiftly to the incident. Police confirmed that a man in his 60s and a woman in her 20s died at the scene, while another woman in her 20s sustained minor injuries and was airlifted to hospital in shock. The victims’ names have not been released. The mine’s operator, Polymetals Resources (ASX: POL), has suspended operations and requested a two-day trading halt to support ongoing investigations. The Endeavor mine was placed on care and maintenance in 2020 and later acquired by Polymetals in 2023, with plans to restart production. The mine resumed operations in the second quarter of 2025 and has since produced its first concentrates.
