【SMM Steel】Philippine steelmaker SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp. has publicly denied any connection to 23 containers of zinc dust allegedly contaminated with radioactive caesium-137 that were rejected by Indonesia. However, the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute identified SteelAsia as the source and ordered the containers entombed at its Calaca scrap recycling plant. In response, SteelAsia stated it has voluntarily suspended operations at the facility. The company maintained it neither uses nor produces radioactive materials in its steelmaking process, with all purchased scrap metal undergoing radiation testing. PNRI's chief confirmed detection of radioactivity within the company's premises, and the matter is under investigation by a Philippine inter-agency government committee.
