Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 25, CATL and JAC Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement to strengthen collaboration across technology development, supply chain security, and international expansion, according to a post on CATL's WeChat account.

Leveraging CATL's industry-leading battery technologies, the partnership aims to enhance the performance and safety of JAC's entire vehicle lineup, delivering greater value and efficiency to consumers.

JAC Group, a comprehensive automotive enterprise integrating vehicle manufacturing and mobility services, has been accelerating its move upmarket through its premium "MAEXTRO" lineup. The series incorporates CATL's latest innovations such as the Qilin and Shenxing batteries. Featuring technologies like ultra-fast charging, dual-surface cooling, NP2.0 thermal protection, and reinforced underbody safety systems, the MAEXTRO range enhances both performance and user experience with greater reliability and efficiency.

The two companies will align their strengths to advance JAC's premium supply chain strategy through collaboration in three key areas.

First, they plan to reinforce supply chain resilience, with CATL committing to long-term, high-quality power battery support for JAC's full vehicle lineup to ensure consistent quality and technological leadership.

Second, they will jointly develop next-generation products, integrating breakthroughs in ultra-fast charging, dual-core battery architecture, extended battery life, CIIC (Integrated Intelligent Chassis) systems, battery swapping ecosystems, and data-driven applications. The goal is to accelerate the industrialization of cutting-edge innovations and translate technology directly into commercial products.

Third, CATL and JAC Group will join forces in overseas markets to co-develop new energy vehicles tailored to global demand. This will support the international expansion of JAC's passenger vehicle brands—including JAC, Yiwei, and Refine—as well as its commercial vehicle arm, Ankai.

Looking ahead, CATL and JAC Group will continue to explore innovations in both power battery technologies and business models.

Two Major Super Battery Plants Terminated
Recently, battery joint venture ACC has terminated its plans to build super battery plants in Germany and Italy. The decision to suspend the construction of battery plants in Germany and Italy was made due to considerations of shifting from nickel-based battery chemistry to lithium iron phosphate battery technology. The company had previously planned to build three super plants in Europe — in France, Germany, and Italy — with a total investment of approximately 7 billion euros. The goal was to increase ACC's battery production capacity to at least 120 GWh by 2030. However, the projects in Germany and Italy have been on hold since May 2024. With this announcement of termination, only the French battery plant will remain operational.
