Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 22, Honda Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. ("Honda China") and Dongfeng Motor Group Company Limited ("Dongfeng Motor") jointly launched a social demonstration program for hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles in China.
The initiative will begin in Wuhan, where their joint venture, Wuhan Dongben Storage and Transportation Co., Ltd. (“Dongben Storage and Transportation”), will deploy hydrogen-powered trucks along existing logistics routes. Following the Wuhan rollout, the project will gradually expand to other major cities, including Guangzhou and Shanghai.
The demonstration marks a new phase of collaboration that combines Dongfeng Motor's deep expertise in commercial vehicles, Honda's advanced fuel cell technology, and Dongben Storage and Transportation's operational logistics experience. Together, the three parties aim to accelerate the transition toward a carbon-neutral transportation ecosystem in China.
Since 2023, Honda China and Dongfeng Motor have jointly conducted integration and testing of Honda's fuel cell system in Dongfeng's light-duty commercial vehicles. Over two years of extensive on-road testing across various operating environments, the vehicles demonstrated strong adaptability, durability, and energy efficiency. The results confirmed the system's exceptional overall performance, particularly its fast responsiveness and high reliability—key factors ensuring that fuel cell-powered Dongfeng trucks can meet real-world market demands.
The newly launched pilot project aims to assess how fuel cell technologies perform under real-world Chinese logistics conditions. Its objectives include evaluating vehicle usability and operating costs, analyzing market competitiveness and user acceptance, and measuring operational efficiency and added value from the perspective of fleet operators and end users.
