SMM Flash: CAAM Reports 24.6% YoY Surge in Sept NEV Sales to 1.604M Units

[SMM Flash: CAAM: September NEV Sales Reach 1.604 Million Units, Up 24.6% YoY] In September, the auto market performed strongly, with production and sales reaching 3.276 million and 3.226 million units, respectively. Compared with the previous month, production increased by 16.4% and sales increased by 12.9%; compared with the same period last year, production increased by 17.1% and sales increased by 14.9%. Notably, auto production and sales exceeded the 3 million unit mark for the first time in the same period historically, and the monthly YoY growth rate has remained above 10% for five consecutive months. From the beginning of the year to September, cumulative auto production and sales reached 24.333 million and 24.363 million units, up 13.3% and 12.9% YoY, respectively. Compared with the January-August data, the growth rates for production and sales increased by 0.6 and 0.3 percentage points, respectively. In the NEV sector, September production and sales also performed strongly, reaching 1.617 million and 1.604 million units, respectively. Compared with the same period last year, production increased by 23.7% and sales increased by 24.6%. The share of new NEV sales in total new auto sales reached 49.7%. Similarly, from the beginning of the year to September, cumulative NEV production and sales reached 11.243 million and 11.228 million units, up 35.2% and 34.9% YoY, respectively. The share of new NEV sales in total new auto sales was 46.1%.

Serra Verde, a Brazilian rare earth element producer, announced today that the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) offered it a financing package worth $565 million, which also includes an option for the US government to acquire a minority stake in the company. Serra Verde’s Pela Ema ionic clay deposit in Brazil is scheduled to begin commercial production in 2024, with an expected annual output of 5,000 mt of total rare earth oxides, including dysprosium, erbium, neodymium, and praseodymium. Serra Verde plans to use the funds to refinance existing loan facilities and expand production capacity. The project aims to increase total rare earth oxide production to 6,500 mt per year by 2027.
