Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 13, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle and CATL signed a new five-year strategic cooperation agreement in Ningde, Fujian, according to a post on CATL's WeChat account. Building on their earlier successful collaboration, the two companies will embark on a deeper partnership focused on advancing commercial vehicle electrification. The renewed alliance will cover frontier technology development, global market expansion, aftermarket growth, and the joint creation of a sustainable industrial ecosystem — all aimed at mutual growth and industry leadership.
The partnership will revolve around three main pillars: product R&D, the establishment of industry standards, and collaborative ecosystem building.
In product development, the companies plan to leverage their complementary strengths across key segments — including tractor-trailers, dump trucks, cargo vehicles, and specialty models — to deliver more efficient and reliable zero-carbon logistics solutions.
On the standards front, Dongfeng Motor and CATL will jointly promote innovation in materials, systems, and technologies to help define new benchmarks for commercial vehicle battery systems, reinforcing their leadership in advancing the sector's technological frontiers.
The two sides also intend to build a more robust ecosystem by exploring battery banking models, expanding battery-swap station networks, and accelerating the deployment of ultra-fast charging technologies — all aimed at fostering a more sustainable and interconnected commercial vehicle value chain.
Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle, a core division of Dongfeng Motor Group specializing in medium and heavy-duty trucks, remains one of China's leading commercial vehicle manufacturers. Through this strengthened partnership with CATL, the company aims to further steer the industry's shift toward new energy vehicle solutions. Together, the two sides will focus on technological breakthroughs and business model innovation to build a safe, efficient, and scalable new energy ecosystem for commercial transport, contributing to the realization of a zero-carbon future for global logistics.
