BYD has won Singapore's landmark pilot program for autonomous bus services, becoming the lead supplier in the country's first officially approved Level 4 driverless bus project.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD has won Singapore's landmark pilot program for autonomous bus services, becoming the lead supplier in the country's first officially approved Level 4 driverless bus project, according to a press release BYD Commercial Vehicle issued on Oct. 11 via its WeChat account.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), marks the first integration of autonomous buses into a foreign public transport network. In line with Singapore's "Green Transport" and "Net Zero" ambitions, the trial will deploy fully electric vehicles. Operations are expected to begin in mid-2026 on Route 191 in the One-North business district and Route 400 serving Marina Bay and Shenton Way. Each 16-seat autonomous bus will charge standard public transit fares.

Renowned for its stringent procurement and safety standards, Singapore required bidders to demonstrate proven expertise in autonomous fleet operations within complex traffic environments and the capability for remote management.

The winning consortium—comprising BYD, MKX Technologies, and MOGOX—reflects growing international recognition of Chinese strengths in both autonomous driving and electric bus technologies.

BYD's commercial EVs, built around its in-house battery, electric motor, electric control, and chip technologies, already serve in airports, ports, logistics hubs, and public transit systems worldwide. The company's vehicles use a domain-controlled architecture with standardized hardware and software interfaces, allowing quick customization and tight integration with autonomous driving systems. Each vehicle undergoes reliability testing in self-driving mode before delivery, ensuring stability and responsiveness under prolonged operation.

With its electric chassis capable of fine-tuned system control, BYD's design enhances both route accuracy and operational efficiency—positioning the company as a leading player in the global transition toward intelligent, zero-emission public transport.
