Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 9, BYD celebrated a major global milestone as its 14 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) rolled off the production line at its passenger vehicle plant in Brazil.

With this achievement, the company became the world's first NEV maker to surpass the 14 million-unit production mark. At the ceremony, BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu presented the milestone vehicle — a Song Pro SUV — to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

During the ceremony, Mr. Wang expressed gratitude to the governments of China and Brazil, as well as to BYD's partners and customers for their continued support. He noted that BYD has been active in Brazil for more than 11 years, with its electric buses now operating across major cities. The company currently has over 170,000 vehicle owners in the country and has ranked as Brazil's top-selling NEV brand for two consecutive years. Mr. Wang emphasized that BYD's role in Brazil extends beyond investment—it aims to be a long-term partner contributing to sustainable mobility.

Mr. Wang also announced that BYD will provide 30 customized NEVs for the upcoming 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will be held later this year in Belém, Pará. The fleet will serve as low-carbon transport during the summit, and afterward, the vehicles will be donated to local schools and public institutions to further support Brazil's efforts toward greener transportation.

On the eve of the ceremony, the Bahia State Assembly approved the renaming of the main road in front of BYD's Brazilian factory to "BYD Road." It is the third overseas road to bear the company's name, following similar dedications in Lancaster, the United States, and Rayong, Thailand—both home to BYD manufacturing facilities. The new "BYD Road" in South America symbolizes the company's deepening global presence and the growing recognition of its brand worldwide.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
