Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Oct. 4, 2025, XPENG announced via its WeChat account that it has entered into new partnerships with major distributors in Morocco and Tunisia, extending its footprint across North Africa. The move builds on the company's earlier entry into Egypt and establishes a complete market network along the Mediterranean coastline, laying the groundwork for its future expansion into sub-Saharan Africa.

According to Wang Ke, XPENG's General Manager for the Middle East and Africa, Africa plays an essential role in the company's global strategy. Morocco, as one of the continent's largest automotive manufacturing hubs, offers a well-developed industrial base, while Tunisia serves as a strategic link between Africa and Europe. Together, these markets complete XPENG's coverage of North Africa's coastal economic zone.

XPENG first entered the African market in June 2024, selecting Egypt as its initial gateway to the continent. Partnering with local distributor RAYA Auto, the company launched its G9 SUV and P7 sedan for Egyptian consumers.

In Morocco, XPENG's local partner is SMEIA, a long-established luxury automotive distributor with over four decades of experience representing leading global brands. SMEIA commands more than 30% of the country's luxury car market and operates a nationwide service network covering over 97% of Morocco's population. The company will dedicate an independent brand team to XPENG, ensuring customers receive premium smart mobility services.

In Tunisia, XPENG has teamed up with XP CARS Tunisia, a top local dealer group known for its extensive sales and service network. The company has a strong track record of introducing new automotive brands to the Tunisian market and is recognized for its customer-centric service philosophy, aligning closely with XPENG's own approach to aftersales care and user experience.

With the addition of Morocco and Tunisia, XPENG's North African network has taken shape. Together with its established operations in Egypt, the automaker now has a continuous presence along the Mediterranean coast, positioning it to expand further into sub-Saharan Africa in the coming years.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
