[SMM News: Niron Establishes Rare-Earth-Free Magnet Plant in the US] US magnet producer Niron Magnetics has officially broken ground on a manufacturing facility in Minnesota, aiming to supply rare-earth-free permanent magnets for critical industries. Niron revealed that the plant, located in Sartell, Minnesota, will provide an annual production capacity of 1,500 mt of permanent magnets for various sectors including data center cooling pumps, automotive motors, robotics, consumer electronics, defense, and unmanned aerial vehicle equipment, with operations expected to commence in early 2027. The magnets produced by Niron are made from abundant materials such as iron and nitrogen, completely free of rare earth elements. Its proprietary magnet technology, based on iron nitride, enables high magnetization performance.
