Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 28, SAIC-GM's Buick officially put the ELECTRA L7, the debut model of its new premium new-energy sub-brand, ELECTRA, onto the market. Five trims are on offer, with launch prices ranging from 169,900 yuan to 215,900 yuan.

The ELECTRA L7 adopts a youthful, athletic design language. At the front, a seamless headlamp cluster integrates narrow LED daytime running lights, accentuated by pronounced hood creases for a sharper look. A large lower intake outlined with chrome trim adds to its modern appeal, while a forward-facing roof-mounted LiDAR unit hints at its autonomous driving ambitions.

From the side, the coupe-style silhouette flows smoothly from roof to tail, blending aerodynamics with aesthetics. Frameless doors and flush electric handles further the sleek profile. Distinctive 20-inch turbine-style wheels, accented with chrome, create a dynamic effect in motion. Six body colors—including Obsidian Black and Nebula Purple—highlight its premium positioning. Measuring 5,032 mm long, 1,952 mm wide, and 1,500 mm high on a 3,000 mm wheelbase, the L7 offers both presence and interior space.

At the rear, a wing-shaped taillight with a matrix lighting effect mirrors the front design and enhances visibility at night. Its brightness adjusts to braking intensity for added safety. A subtle ducktail spoiler emphasizes sportiness, while a diffuser-style bumper and hidden exhaust reinforce its clean, EV-oriented look. A distinctive blue light within the taillamps signals the vehicle's intelligent driving status to surrounding road users, balancing style with function.

Inside, the cabin follows a minimalist "floating island" design theme, emphasizing layered elegance. It debuts Qualcomm's latest SA8775P chip, delivering 72 TOPS of computing power. Displays include a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, and a 50-inch augmented-reality HUD that projects layered driving data directly onto the road view.

The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay, Huawei HiCar, and Car Link from Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo.

Unique digital functions include customizable multi-scene modes and a phone-based "scenario-ready" setup feature—allowing users to pre-configure cabin settings for different journeys. An AI assistant built on cloud-edge large model architecture enhances personalization, voice control, and connectivity.

The chassis combines a front double-wishbone setup with a rear five-link design, the latter featuring six ball joints for improved balance between comfort and control. A continuously variable damping suspension with millisecond-level response further refines ride quality and handling stability.

Power comes from Buick's "Zhen Long" range-extender system, pairing a 1.5T engine as a generator with a 252 kW electric drive motor. The ELECTRA L7 sprints from 0–100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, with highway overtakes from 80–120 km/h taking just 3.8 seconds—even when the battery is low. Energy efficiency is highlighted by a combined fuel consumption of just 0.5 liters per 100 km. A newly developed 40.2 kWh Ultium battery delivers 302 km of CLTC-rated battery-powered range and a total driving range exceeding 1,420 km.

For assisted driving, the ELECTRA L7 adopts Buick's Xiaoyao Intelligent Drive system powered by Momenta's R6 end-to-end reinforcement learning model. It enables advanced functions such as uninterrupted city-level navigation on autopilot (NOA) and one-touch parking into spaces without stopping. The system is designed to handle complex scenarios, including sudden pedestrian crossings, blind-spot obstructions, and aggressive lane cuts.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
