Beijing (Gasgoo)- On Sept. 26, Volvo Cars officially put the all-new XC70, a luxury plug-in hybrid electric SUV built on the company's new SMA super hybrid architecture, onto the Chinese market. Prices start at 269,900 yuan during a limited-time promotion

The all-new XC70 combines Volvo's hallmark safety with an advanced multi-motor hybrid system. The setup integrates a 1.5T dedicated hybrid engine, P1+P2+P4 electric motors, and a 3DHT hybrid transmission, delivering 340 kW of combined output. The SUV accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 5.28 seconds, offers over 200 km CLTC all-electric range, and more than 1,200 km combined range, with fuel consumption of 6.55 L/100 km when the battery is depleted.

The system supports seven operating modes—series, parallel, direct drive, and more—optimizing efficiency and performance across urban commuting, highway driving, and low-SOC scenarios. Volvo noted that this approach combines the strengths of various architectures while minimizing their drawbacks.

Inside, the XC70 features a 92-inch AR-HUD, AI-powered voice system, NPA navigation-assisted driving, and 24 sensors delivering 21 advanced safety functions. It also supports remote temperature control, smart parking, and multi-scenario voice commands.

Volvo said the XC70 fills a key gap in its product portfolio, complementing its pure electric vehicle (EX30, EM90) and mild hybrid offerings. With its extended range and strong hybrid performance, the new model strengthens Volvo's competitiveness in China's fast-growing plug-in hybrid electric vehicle segment.
