Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In a move underscoring their commitment to a new joint brand, GAC Group and Huawei have appointed Liu Jiaming as chief executive officer of the newly launched Qijing brand, according to a press release issued via GAC Group's WeChat account on September 25. The announcement, made in the presence of Huawei's rotating chairman Xu Zhijun and GAC chairman Feng Xingya, places Mr. Liu in charge of brand strategy, product planning, market expansion, and overall operations.

Mr. Liu brings more than 25 years of experience across sales, product strategy, investment planning, and technical management. Much of his career was spent at GAC Toyota and the wider GAC Group, where he helped shape high-profile models such as the Highlander and Camry and introduced structural reforms in sales operations. His background combines cross-functional expertise with the ability to integrate resources in multicultural environments—skills seen as vital for steering a brand positioned at the intersection of automotive manufacturing and advanced technology.

The Qijing brand was officially unveiled earlier this year as a premium smart electric vehicle marque, jointly developed by GAC Group and Huawei Qiankun, a smart driving solution unit of Huawei.

Both companies have expressed high expectations for the venture. Feng Xingya described Huawei as not only a key partner but also a model for GAC's transformation, calling Qijing a project of "the highest priority." He pledged to allocate the group's strongest resources to secure the brand's long-term development.

Xu Zhijun, meanwhile, said he hoped Qijing would "open new horizons and win the future with intelligence," encouraging joint teams to shape it into a truly premium brand.

According to the partners, every Qijing model will feature Huawei Qiankun's latest intelligent systems. By combining Huawei's strengths in driver-assistance, smart cockpits, digital ecosystems, and marketing with GAC's expertise in electric powertrains and vehicle manufacturing, the two aim to build a competitive new player in China's premium NEV market.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
