Southeast Tibet to Greater Bay Area UHV Project Boosts Demand for Copper Wire and Cable

【SMM Copper Express】 On September 16, 2025, the construction mobilization meeting for the ±800 kV ultra-high voltage DC power transmission project from southeastern Tibet to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held. This project, jointly promoted by the State Grid Corporation of China and China Southern Power Grid, spans approximately 2,681 kilometers, has a transmission capacity of 10,000 MW, and involves a total investment of about 53.2 billion yuan. After full operation in 2029, it will transmit over 43 billion kWh of clean energy annually to the Greater Bay Area. Not only will the construction of the 2,681-kilometer power transmission line directly boost demand for copper wire and cable, but the development of supporting facilities, such as the integrated hydropower, wind, and solar power supply base and converter stations, will also require substantial copper wire and cable support. This will create new market growth opportunities for copper wire and cable enterprises and vigorously drive industry development.
