Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 18, Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) Li Auto and leading battery supplier CATL signed a five-year comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement and held a licensing ceremony.

The two companies will conduct in-depth cooperation in areas such as battery safety and ultra-fast charging technology, while jointly expanding domestic and overseas business to drive innovation in battery technology and global deployment.

As a long-term partner, CATL will supply Li Auto's entire product lineup with high-performance, high-safety, and high-quality power battery systems—including but not limited to ternary lithium batteries, M3P batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries, and sodium-ion batteries—providing core momentum for Li Auto's premium intelligent NEV experience.

To date, more than one million Li Auto vehicles equipped with CATL batteries have been delivered, with no incidents of thermal runaway caused by the batteries themselves. CATL said it has consistently upheld strict safety standards and applied innovative battery technologies to ensure system safety.

The new agreement marks a further deepening of their partnership, as Li Auto and CATL work together to deliver a safer, more efficient, and more intelligent mobility experience for users.

Just one day earlier, on September 17, CATL also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. ("China Huaneng"). The two sides plan to leverage their respective strengths to deepen collaboration in product manufacturing, new energy, energy storage construction and operations, scientific research, and the nuclear power industry.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
