Beijing (Gasgoo)- On Sept. 17, Chinese battery maker EVE Energy announced on WeChat that it officially connected its first large-scale sodium-ion battery storage system to the grid at its Jingmen base, marking the transition to commercial operation.

The system, independently developed and designed by EVE Energy, adopts the NF155L sodium-ion cell based on the NFPP chemistry. It features high safety, wide operating temperature (–40°C to +60°C), high-rate capability, long cycle life, and low carbon emissions. The cell offers more than 30,000 charge–discharge cycles, supports above 1P power discharge, and can be stored at 0% SOC for extended periods, enhancing safety in storage, transportation, and assembly. Compared with lithium-ion batteries, its lifecycle carbon footprint is reduced by more than 42%, said the company.

At the system level, safety is reinforced through intrinsic design and dual fire suppression. In extreme thermal runaway conditions, gas generation and flammability are significantly reduced, lowering explosion risks. Dual-level fire protection—at the module and cabinet levels—provides comprehensive safeguards.

The system is fully self-designed and manufactured with 100% in-house core components. It can be flexibly deployed and directly adapted to mature lithium battery production processes, supporting rapid mass production and modular cabinet combinations for varied application scenarios.

EVE Energy said its NF155L sodium-ion batteries have already gained recognition from multiple energy storage customers. The company will continue advancing sodium-ion R&D and commercialization, aiming to accelerate large-scale adoption.
