[Copper Cathode — Market insights] According to SMM, some small- and medium-sized smelters in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have recently cut production due to tight hydropower supply. At the same time, the Zambian government plans to restrict sulfuric-acid exports to the DRC. Because most of the DRC’s copper production uses SX-EW processes, constrained acid supply poses a material challenge to restarting and sustaining output.
