Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 8 local time, BYD and its premium sub-brand DENZA took center stage at the IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich. The company unveiled seven headline models, including the DENZA Z9GT, DENZA D9, and the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i, alongside its much-discussed megawatt fast-charging technology.
During a press briefing, BYD Executive Vice-President Stella Li confirmed that the company's Hungary plant will begin operations before the end of the year, with the SEAGULL set to be its first locally produced model.
Ms. Li emphasized that Europe remains central to BYD's global strategy. With regional headquarters, manufacturing capacity, and growing R&D investment, the automaker is increasingly embedded in the continent's new energy vehicle ecosystem. Building on consumer trust, BYD aims to roll out more high-quality models to accelerate Europe's transition toward sustainable mobility.
At the show, BYD launched the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING, a wagon designed specifically for European customers. Combining the company's DM-i hybrid powertrain with the design language of European estates, the model has already gone on sale in several European countries.
Also drawing attention was BYD's megawatt fast-charging system, capable of adding driving range at a rate of 2 kilometers per second—the fastest peak charging speed in mass production worldwide. In Europe, the technology will first be applied to DENZA vehicles, with 200 to 300 charging stations expected to come online across the region by the second quarter of 2026.
BYD also introduced its official certified pre-owned program in Munich, aimed at boosting consumer confidence in the second-hand NEV market. Vehicles sold under the scheme must pass 179 inspection points, guarantee at least 90% battery health, and come with comprehensive benefits including warranty coverage, roadside assistance, and connected data services.
Since entering the European passenger vehicle market in September 2022, BYD has expanded its presence to 32 countries and regions. Its 13-model lineup spans from hatchbacks to mid-to-large SUVs, and brings with it signature technologies such as the blade battery, hybrid powertrains, and megawatt charging.
The company plans to deepen this footprint by opening over 2,000 outlets across Europe by the end of 2026 in partnership with local dealers and distributors. In Germany alone, 120 retail and service locations are set to be established by the end of this year, underscoring BYD's commitment to localized operations.
As of August 2025, BYD's cumulative global sales exceeded 13 million units, with its new energy vehicles now reaching 112 countries and regions across six continents. Overseas sales of passenger vehicles and pickups surpassed 630,000 in the first eight months of this year—more than double the volume from the same period in 2024 and already higher than last year's total.
