Cobalt Chloride: Cost-Driven Price Breakthrough

This week, the cobalt chloride market performed strongly, with a top-tier enterprise achieving a spot transaction price of 69,000 yuan/mt yesterday and a trading volume exceeding 100 mt, significantly higher than the previous market-wide quotation range of 66,000-67,000 yuan/mt. This notably boosted current market sentiment and price expectations. From the cost side, intermediate product prices have climbed to $14.3/lb, and the high-cost structure provides strong support for cobalt chloride prices. Although cost-driven increases are relatively clear, downstream sectors still need time to digest the price hikes. Whether the rapid price rise can stimulate active purchasing and stockpiling behavior remains to be further observed.

In January, national passenger car producers' new energy wholesale estimates reached 900,000 units, up 1% YoY.

According to the latest data from the Passenger Car Association, in December 2025, producers with new energy wholesale sales exceeding 10,000 units accounted for 93% of the total wholesale sales of passenger NEVs that month.
