[SMM Flash: Energy Fuels' Pr-Nd Passes EV Motor Tests] US rare earth element company Energy Fuels announced that its domestically mined and processed praseodymium-neodymium oxide has successfully passed all quality assurance tests for use in electric vehicle motors. Energy Fuels produced high-purity praseodymium-neodymium oxide at its White Mesa plant in Utah. Subsequently, this oxide was further processed by South Korea's POSCO to convert it into Pr-Nd alloy, NdFeB alloy sintered blocks, and high-performance, high-temperature NdFeB rare earth permanent magnets.
As early as March this year, Energy Fuels reached an agreement with POSCO aimed at qualifying its produced praseodymium-neodymium oxide for use in traction motor magnetic cores. Additionally, Energy Fuels is currently conducting trials on 99.9% dysprosium oxide, a heavy rare earth that is one of the key components of NdFeB magnets. It is worth mentioning that 1.2 metric tons of praseodymium-neodymium oxide can be processed into approximately 3 metric tons of rare earth permanent magnets, which are sufficient to meet the power requirements of 1,500 units of new-type electric and hybrid vehicles.
