[SMM New Energy News Flash] At the IAA in Munich, the Global Battery Circular Economy High-End Forum hosted by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and supported by CATL, brought together over 100 representatives from leading companies such as CATL, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and BASF, along with global alliances and research institutions. Discussions focused on achieving circularity in the battery value chain and fostering policy and financial collaboration to scale the circular economy. CATL stressed designing batteries “born for recycling,” while Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and BASF highlighted the importance of collaboration, digital tools like battery passports, and supply chain transparency. Experts agreed that EU regulations, innovative business models, and capital market participation are crucial for scaling up. The forum marked a milestone for the Global Energy Recycling Initiative, the first circular economy public welfare project led by Chinese enterprises, aiming for 50% of global battery production to reduce reliance on new mineral extraction within 20 years. The initiative seeks to build a collaborative global ecosystem with unified standards, transparent data, and industry-wide cooperation to accelerate the green transformation of the automotive sector.
