【SMM Steel】US Steel has announced that it will cease steel slab processing at its Granite City Works facility in Illinois, with production scheduled to end in November. The decision comes three months after Nippon Steel finalized its acquisition of US Steel under an agreement granting the US government oversight of decisions affecting domestic steel production. Despite the shutdown, all approximately 800 workers will retain their jobs and current pay levels through at least 2027, guaranteed under the national security agreement tied to the acquisition. Employees will be tasked with maintaining the plant in operational condition in case production is resumed in the future.
