The Indian government is implementing a national program to provide financial support for domestic steel enterprises in producing green steel. The program is expected to allocate approximately 50 billion rupees (around $567 million) and will be launched in the next fiscal year after obtaining necessary approvals.

The government aims to promote high-quality raw materials, alternative fuels, and renewable energy in steel production. According to the National Steel Policy 2017, India has set a target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions per mt of crude steel to 2.6–2.7 mt by 2030 through electric arc furnace technology. Currently, about 50%–60% of major steel producers have adopted modern technologies, while the proportion among secondary steel producers remains below 50%.
