Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 8, Changan Automobile held its first-ever press conference at an international auto show since the establishment of China Changan Automobile Group, unveiling the DEEPAL S05 at IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich. The following day, the company delivered the first DEEPAL S05 vehicle to a European customer in Munich.
At the same time, Changan's NEV (new energy vehicle) brand DEEPAL staged a global launch event in Chongqing, where several new models were unveiled. The DEEPAL S05 was simultaneously presented in both Chongqing and Munich, signaling the brand's coordinated push across domestic and international fronts.
On September 7, Changan-backed AVATR hosted its own brand day in Munich, debuting its XPECTRA concept car. Positioned around a philosophy of "emotional luxury" and advanced technologies, AVATR outlined plans to introduce at least five new models globally by 2027.
With three major launch events held across China and Germany in just two days, Changan Automobile underscored its accelerating global strategy, placing Europe at the center of its overseas expansion. The company announced plans to enter more than ten regional markets across Europe by year's end. To symbolize this commitment, representatives from dealerships across ten European countries joined Changan on stage in Munich, followed by a signing ceremony on September 9 to formalize cooperation.
Changan Automobile has already established regional headquarters in Europe, Eurasia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East & Africa, and Latin America, laying the groundwork for a truly global footprint.
The company's high-profile presence in Munich reflects more than a decade of heavy investment—over 110 billion yuan—into new energy vehicle, intelligent connectivity, and forward-looking technologies. Over the past three years alone, Changan Automobile has filed more than 14,000 patents, contributed to 111 national and industry standards, and played a leading role in shaping regulations for intelligent driving classifications.
Changan Automobile's connection to Europe stretches back to 2001, when it set up a design center in Turin, Italy—becoming one of the first Chinese automakers to establish a European presence. Today, it operates a global R&D network spanning six countries and ten sites, supported by a 24,000-member technical R&D team, 44 research and development centers, and more than 200 laboratories worldwide.
In Europe, Changan Automobile has already signed distribution agreements in eight countries. It operates its own import subsidiaries in Germany and the UK, and is building spare parts hubs in the Netherlands and the UK to serve the EU and Commonwealth markets. Call centers and service training facilities are also scheduled to go live this year.
Beyond Europe, Changan Automobile is ramping up local production worldwide. Its first overseas NEV plant has begun operations in Rayong, Thailand, targeting Southeast Asia. KD assembly projects are underway in Egypt, Algeria, and Kazakhstan, while feasibility studies for production facilities in Mexico and Brazil are progressing.
In total, Changan Automobile has mapped out 20 overseas plants—including in Brazil and Indonesia—with nine already operational. Once complete, its overseas production capacity is expected to reach 500,000 units annually, strengthening its ability to serve global markets.
