Shanghai (Gasgoo)- At the ongoing IAA MOBILITY 2025, BYD Executive Vice-President Stella Li said BYD aims to begin local production of electric vehicles ("EVs") in Europe within the next three years.

The move is designed to bring BYD closer to regional demand and streamline its supply chain, setting a deadline of 2028 for the full localization of its EV production for the European market.

Ms. Li noted that BYD is aligning its manufacturing system with European standards. Its new plant in Hungary is expected to begin operations later this year, while another facility in Turkey is scheduled to come online in 2026. Together, these sites will enhance BYD's ability to respond quickly to customer needs and improve delivery efficiency across Europe.

In the near term, plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) will serve as BYD's primary offering in Europe. The company plans to launch three to four new PHEV models within the next six months and expects this segment to become dominant in the region within one to two years. BYD also intends to introduce its premium brand, YANGWANG, to European consumers by 2027.

To support its expansion, BYD is negotiating partnerships with hundreds of local suppliers and plans to establish more than 1,000 retail outlets across 32 European countries by the end of this year. Its lineup has already grown significantly, with 13 models now available in Europe—up sharply from just two years ago.

The latest model to join BYD's European portfolio is the SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING, which boasts a combined driving range of up to 1,350 kilometers.

Ms. Li added that BYD continues to post double-digit sales growth this year, with overseas markets expected to be the main driver of expansion in 2025.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
