After a 22-year suspension, Brazil's Vale announced the restart of the Capanema iron ore mine. The mine is expected to increase Vale's annual iron ore production by approximately 15 million mt, supporting the company's guidance of achieving 340 million to 360 million mt of production by 2026. The reactivated Capanema iron ore mine does not require the construction of tailings dams, fundamentally preventing the recurrence of dam failures similar to those in 2015 and 2019.
