Beijing (Gasgoo)- On Sept. 7, Chinese battery giant CATL held a product launch event in Munich, Germany, introducing its highest-level battery safety technology platform, NP3.0 (No Propagation 3.0), along with the debut of the Shenxing Pro, the first lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery to feature the new technology.

The unveiling responds to Europe's urgent demand for electrification and aims to accelerate the global transition to green mobility.

No Propagation 3.0

CATL's NP3.0 platform achieves breakthroughs across chemistry, structural design, system design, and control strategies. It integrates eight core innovations: flame-retardant electrolyte, flame-retardant separator, nano-coating on cathode materials, cell safety devices, aerogel thermal insulation pads, fire-retardant coating, circuit stabilization control, and high-voltage active cooling systems.

According to the company, in extreme thermal runaway conditions, NP3.0 prevents heat from spreading between cells while maintaining vehicle high-voltage power supply and ensuring stable output for over an hour, allowing vehicles to safely exit and avoid emergencies. The system suppresses flames and smoke during failures, reducing secondary accident risks, and offers redundancy to meet the stringent requirements of L3/L4 intelligent driving for continuous, stable power supply.

Shenxing Pro contributes to Europe's EV transition

As Europe accelerates its electrification push, consumer concerns over affordability, range, durability, charging convenience, and safety remain. LFP batteries, known for safety and cost advantages, are increasingly chosen by European automakers as a strategic solution.

The Shenxing Pro, built on NP3.0 and featuring CATL's new Wave cell design and Cell-to-Body integration, achieves a system efficiency of 76%, said the company. It delivers advances across safety, range, fast charging, and lifecycle performance, making it a compelling option for Europe's diverse new energy vehicle needs.

NP3.0-powered Shenxing Pro Battery lineup

Specifically, at the event, CATL introduced two variants of the Shenxing Pro battery: a long-life long-range version and a fast-charging version. The Shenxing Pro Super Long Life & Long Range Battery offers a WLTP range of 758 km and a record-breaking lifespan of 12 years or 1 million km for passenger vehicles. After 200,000 km, capacity degradation is limited to just 9%, boosting residual value and aligning with Europe's long-term leasing models.

On the other hand, the Shenxing Pro Super-Fast Charging Battery delivers a WLTP range of 683 km with peak 12C charging capability. It can recharge 478 km of range in just 10 minutes and, even at –20°C, restores 20% to 80% of its capacity within 20 minutes. CATL claims it to be the fastest-charging LFP battery currently available in Europe, meeting cold-climate requirements for reliable performance.

Strengthening European partnerships

CATL has already partnered with more than 90% of Europe's mainstream automakers and operates major facilities in Germany and Hungary, with a third under construction in Spain. The launch of NP3.0 and the Shenxing Pro underscores the company's commitment to deepening collaboration with European OEMs and advancing the region's green transition.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
