【SMM Steel】Germany's Salzgitter Group has launched construction of a €30 million steel scrap shredder plant at its subsidiary DEUMU Deutsche Erz- und Metall-Union GmbH in Salzgitter. The new facility will process high-quality scrap from accumulated old scrap sources, supporting the group's transition to low-emission steel production.
Steel scrap plays a crucial role in both blast furnace/converter and electric arc furnace steelmaking, with its importance expected to grow further in decarbonization efforts. The investment aligns with the group's SALCOS® (Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking) program, which is scheduled to begin production in the first half of 2027.
