[SMM New Energy News Flash] Anhui Chengrui Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has announced plans for a large-scale waste lithium battery recycling project in Bengbu Economic Development Zone, marking a significant step in China’s circular economy for new energy. The project, to be implemented in three phases, will focus initially on second-life applications for retired EV batteries with an annual capacity of 7,000 tons. Against the backdrop of China’s fast-growing EV market, expected to generate 820,000 tons of retired batteries by 2025 and over 4 million tons by 2028. This project aims to address both resource recovery and environmental protection. Supported by national policies and a growing “white list” of qualified recyclers, the initiative highlights technological innovation in battery dismantling, material recovery, and automation, positioning itself as a benchmark for sustainable development in the industry.
