On August 29, 2025, at the Chengdu International Auto Show, SAIC MG launched a groundbreaking version of its all-new MG4—the "Semi-Solid-State Safe Core Edition"—with a limited-time subsidized price of 99,800 yuan, entering the 100,000-yuan pure electric vehicle market and bringing semi-solid-state battery technology into the mainstream price range for the first time.

The semi-solid-state battery in the all-new MG4 Semi-Solid-State Safe Core Edition was jointly developed by SAIC and Qingtao Energy, demonstrating excellent safety and low-temperature performance. Through innovations in materials such as semi-solid-state electrolytes, the battery showed no smoke or fire during three-directional and continuous 10-needle penetration tests, significantly reducing the risk of spontaneous combustion. In low-temperature environments, it also performed exceptionally well, achieving a 75% driving range retention rate at -7°C (far exceeding the industry average of 60%) and maintaining over 85% of the battery cell's energy at -15°C. With fast charging, it could replenish approximately 200 km of range in 30 minutes. The all-new MG4 Semi-Solid-State Safe Core Edition is set to begin deliveries in December 2025.

Compared to key competitors—the BYD Dolphin (starting at 78,800 yuan) and the Geely Xingyuan (starting at 69,800 yuan)—the MG4 offers a significantly larger 70 kWh battery pack and a 530 km driving range at a comparable price point. Dimensional Reduction Strike: Its competitive strategy is crystal clear—"trading technology for market share." At the same price point, it offers a 70kWh large battery pack and a 530km driving range that far surpass competitors, while leveraging the safety and low-temperature performance of semi-solid-state batteries as core selling points, creating a "dimensional reduction strike" against rival products.

SMM believes that SAIC MG's deployment of semi-solid-state battery technology in the 100,000-yuan MG4 will preemptively capture customers with a strong preference for mid-end NEVs. Semi-solid-state battery technology has already demonstrated initial potential for mass production and cost control, and in the future, it will transition from being a "high-end exclusive" feature to a "mainstream standard," accelerating the electrification process for all.
