According to information released on the official website of Rio Tinto Group, the company has approved a $180 million investment to develop the Norman Creek Access Project at the Amrun bauxite mine on the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland.
The Norman Creek Access Project will facilitate mining operations in the Norman Creek area, which contains more than half of the published Amrun ore reserves (estimated at 978 million mt).
Currently, major infrastructure construction is underway, including a 19-kilometer haul road, accommodation facilities, and a communications tower.
It is reported that first production from the Norman Creek Access Project is expected to commence in 2027, with full construction completion scheduled for 2028.
