[New National Standard for EVs to Take Effect in September: Speed Limit of 25 km/h with Automatic Power Cut for Exceeding] On September 1, the new national standard for e-bikes will be officially implemented. The new standard stipulates: to enhance driving range, the maximum weight of lithium battery e-bikes is set at 55 kg, while the weight limit for lead-acid battery car models is increased from 55 kg to 63 kg. Manufacturers are required to improve braking performance. Anti-tampering requirements for controllers are enhanced, with motors ceasing to provide power when speed exceeds 25 km/h. The proportion of plastic materials in the total vehicle weight must not exceed 5.5% to reduce fire risks; installation of rearview mirrors is encouraged to minimize "head-turning rates." The standard mandates BeiDou positioning functionality. However, private "small e-bikes" may opt not to install the BeiDou module. Even if equipped with BeiDou positioning, the function can be disabled, and the positioning service remains free of charge.
