[Xi Jinping Meets with Turkish President Erdogan] On the afternoon of August 31, President Xi Jinping met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Tianjin State Guesthouse, who came to China to attend the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit. Xi emphasized that next year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Turkey, and the two sides should take this opportunity to elevate bilateral relations to a new level. First, they should consolidate political mutual trust, support each other on issues concerning core interests and major concerns, and enhance counterterrorism and security cooperation. Second, they should deepen practical cooperation, strengthen the alignment between the Belt and Road Initiative and Turkey's Middle Corridor Initiative, advance the development of the southern route of the China-Europe Railway Express, elevate cooperation in traditional areas such as economy, trade, culture, and tourism, and foster new highlights in cooperation in new energy, 5G, biomedicine, and other fields. Third, they should enhance multilateral coordination, maintain close cooperation within frameworks such as the United Nations, the G20, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, jointly uphold international order and rules, defend international fairness and justice, and contribute to world peace and stability.
