US rare earth producer Energy Fuels pilot-produced 1kg of dysprosium oxide in Utah, targeting weekly output of 2kg.
Energy Fuels stated today that the product achieved 99.9% purity, exceeding the 99.5% commercial specification. These oxides were produced at the company's White Mesa facility using monazite mined from Florida and Georgia. Multiple magnet manufacturers and automakers are evaluating samples to expedite verification.
The pilot production will continue until approximately 15kg of dysprosium oxide is produced. Subsequently, the company plans to commence production of high-purity terbium oxide, with the first samples expected to be delivered for customer validation in Q4 2025.
Energy Fuels intends to construct and commission commercial-scale dysprosium, terbium and other heavy rare earth separation capacity at its White Mesa plant, which could potentially commence operations as early as Q4 2026.
