Modern Steel Company invested $5.8 billion to build an electric arc furnace (EAF) plant in Louisiana. The new facility is expected to commence operations in 2029, utilizing EAF technology to replace traditional blast furnaces that rely solely on coal or other fossil fuels, reducing emissions by up to 85% to achieve decarbonized operations.
The plant's annual steel production capacity will reach approximately 2.7 million mt. The new facility will also incorporate advanced direct reduced iron (DRI) production technology and possess the capability to produce both hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel plates.
