Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 27, the all-new Volvo XC70 made its world premiere at the Chengdu Century City International Exhibition Center. The model launched with two variants: a long-range two-wheel drive and an extended-range all-wheel drive, with starting prices of 299,900 yuan and 329,900 yuan, respectively.
Volvo Cars described the new XC70 as a pivotal step in its electrification strategy and a reaffirmation of its "Made in China, Global Quality" vision. With China being its largest single market worldwide, the automaker continues to position the country as a hub for technology and product innovation. Holding the global debut in Chengdu, the company said, underscores both its focus on Chinese consumers and its confidence in competing globally.
The all-new Volvo XC70 carries forward Volvo's hallmark Scandinavian design language with clean lines and a confident silhouette. The front adopts a shield-shaped layout with upgraded split matrix "Thor's Hammer" headlights, while an active grille shutter beneath adapts to driving conditions for better efficiency. The longer wheelbase lends the profile a stretched and upright stance, while signature "Viking Axe" taillights reinforce a minimalist yet powerful look. Even at a standstill, the SUV projects an air of understated luxury.
Inside, Volvo Cars's interpretation of luxury focuses on subtlety and detail. The cabin extends the brand's Nordic minimalism, featuring a floating center console, a large touchscreen display, and thoughtful storage solutions. Natural wood trim and Nappa leather surfaces create a warm, tactile ambiance, while a column-mounted gear selector and crystal-finished rotary dial add a distinctive flourish.
Practicality remains central to the all-new Volvo XC70's design. Both front and rear cabins provide generous room, with supportive seats that include extendable leg rests in the front. Even passengers over 1.85 meters tall can sit comfortably. The cargo bay offers ample capacity with flexible folding options, catering to family trips and long-distance travel alike.
Technology is another highlight. The SUV features a three-screen setup combining a 15.4-inch central display, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and a 92-inch augmented-reality head-up display. The system offers a clean interface with smooth responsiveness. Four-zone voice recognition supports multiple dialects, including Cantonese, and can process multiple commands at once. An integrated AI model provides real-time assistance, aiming to deliver a user experience comparable to leading EV startups. For driver assistance, the all-new XC70 comes with one-touch automated parking and Volvo's NPA smart pilot system.
At the core of the model is its advanced powertrain. Built on Volvo Cars' new Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA) platform, it integrates a 1.5T engine, a dedicated 3DHT hybrid transmission, and a tri-motor electric drive system (P1 + P2 + P4) to deliver up to 340 kW of combined output. The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.28 seconds on a full charge, while fuel consumption drops to 6.55 L/100 km when running low on battery. Seven drive modes allow seamless switching between battery-power-only, hybrid, and performance settings. Under CLTC standards, the new XC70 achieves more than 200 km of range on battery power alone and a combined range of over 1,200 km—suitable for both daily commuting and long-distance journeys.
