Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 25, SAIC Shangjie, the brand co-built by SAIC Motor and Huawei, officially began presales for the Shangjie H5, the brand's debut model.

Positioned as a mid-sized new energy SUV, the Shangjie H5 will be offered in six variants, including both REEV (range-extended electric vehicle) and BEV (battery electric vehicle) versions. Pre-sale prices start at 169,000 yuan and run up to 209,800 yuan.

The vehicle features Huawei's HarmonySpace smart cockpit, the HUAWEI ADS 4 advanced driver-assistance system, and the HUAWEI XMOTION digital chassis. The model will hit the market on September 23.

The Shangjie H5 adopts a minimalist design language from Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (“HIMA”). The front fascia is smooth and streamlined, with an active grille to reduce drag. Its headlights feature a distinctive look, which integrates L-shaped daytime running lights with matrix headlamps. Four blue auxiliary driving lights are positioned at the front and rear, while triangular air inlets flank a large central cooling intake. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor sits above the nose, signaling the vehicle's emphasis on smart driving technology.

From the side, the Shangjie H5 presents a tall, upright stance with a sharp character line running from the front fender to the taillights. Blacked-out B- and C-pillars enhance the window's visual continuity, while traditional mechanical door handles maintain a familiar touch. Buyers can choose between 19- or 20-inch wheels. Another LiDAR unit is integrated into the roof, underscoring its advanced driver-assistance capabilities.

In terms of size, the Shangjie H5 measures 4,780 mm long, 1,910 mm wide, and 1,664 mm high, with a 2,840 mm wheelbase.

At the rear, the Shangjie H5 features a full-width "horizon line" taillight design that extends onto the side panels, paired with a chrome strip to emphasize width and layered styling. Customers will have six body colors to choose from, including Cloud Blue, Midsummer Purple, Elegant Green, Ceramic White, Moonstone Gray, and Golden Black.

Inside, the cabin adopts a wraparound design with four available interior color schemes. The dashboard integrates a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, complemented by a 50W Huawei Super Charge wireless charging pad for smartphones. A "star-ring" audio system sits above the dashboard, designed to deliver balanced sound distribution.

The Shangjie H5 will offer different levels of Huawei's ADS driver-assistance technology. The Max trim comes with the HUAWEI ADS 4, equipped with a 192-line LiDAR unit, 11 high-definition cameras, three 4D millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, enabling parking-to-parking navigation (P2P 2.0). The Pro version uses the basic HUAWEI ADS suite, relying on a vision-based system with 10 cameras, three millimeter-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. While it does not support city-level navigation assist (NCA), it offers lane centering with traffic light recognition in urban settings, along with NCA for highways and expressways.

In terms of powertrains, the REEV version delivers 235 km of battery-powered range and 1,360 km in total (CLTC cycle). It is powered by SAIC's DMH 1.5-liter dedicated range-extender engine, producing 80 kW, with a combined system output of 150 kW. The BEV version offers four range options—525 km, 535 km, 640 km, and 655 km. It comes with either a 64.6 kWh or 80 kWh battery pack, paired with a rear-mounted single motor rated at 150 kW or 180 kW.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
