Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 22, 2025, BYD held a launch event in Malaysia for the New BYD SEAL sedan model while also announcing plans to build a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) factory, scheduled to begin operations in 2026.

On the same day, the company opened its 36th Wing Hin store, bringing the combined number of BYD and DENZA outlets in Malaysia to 43. The twin milestones mark not only a significant step in BYD's expansion in Malaysia but also a clear demonstration of its commitment to combining global reach with local integration.

According to Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, Malaysia has long been one of the company's most important markets in Southeast Asia. The New SEAL model's launch, alongside the upcoming start of CKD plant construction, opens a new chapter for BYD in the country while reinforcing its long-term commitment to local development. Mr. Liu highlighted that BYD's pledge goes beyond delivering new models, extending into broader contributions to Malaysia's EV ecosystem—from local assembly and talent cultivation to the promotion of electrified mobility—in partnership with local stakeholders to drive a greener, smarter transportation future.

Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors, Southeast Asia, noted that BYD has been the top-selling EV brand in Malaysia for three consecutive years, with the SEAL ranked as the country's best-selling electric sedan in 2024. He added that the introduction of the NEW SEAL will likely attract even wider consumer interest. At the same time, the establishment of the CKD plant ushers in a new era for BYD in Malaysia. Supported by a growing dealership network—now at 36 outlets and expanding further—the company aims to enhance after-sales service and provide Malaysian customers with more convenient access to EVs and ownership support.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
