[Breaking News: Licensed Technology from ORNL Enables Magnets with Less Critical Minerals] United Rare Earths has successfully obtained the rights to use two innovative technologies from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. These technologies aim to reduce dependence on key rare earth elements and promote the production of high-performance magnets, thereby significantly reducing the use of rare earths. David Parker of ORNL stated, "We are committed to developing magnets that perform as well as traditional ones but with less reliance on critical rare earth elements." The ORNL team led by Parker, in collaboration with the US Department of Energy's Critical Materials Institute, jointly advanced this innovative technology. Rare earth elements are indispensable for producing permanent magnets, which are a crucial component in many cutting-edge technologies and fighter jets. They are extracted from rare minerals in the earth's crust and then undergo precise processing and refining.
