[SMM New Energy News Flash] Hunan Xianen New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has completed environmental protection acceptance for its 50 million RMB project dedicated to cascade utilization of retired power batteries, capable of processing 2,000 tons annually (LFP, ternary, manganese-based) and producing 10,000 energy storage cabinets for industrial, telecom, and low-speed transport applications. By repurposing rather than dismantling cells, the project maximizes resource value and supports a circular economy, forming part of Xianen Group’s dual strategy of “cascade utilization + commercial storage.” With China’s retired battery volume projected to reach 780,000 tons in 2025, cascade utilization offers both environmental and economic advantages up to three to four times higher returns than direct recycling and is already widely applied in zero-carbon buildings, grid peak shaving, and telecom stations. Despite challenges in testing and standardization, supportive policies and technological advances are accelerating commercialization, with experts forecasting a market exceeding 100 billion RMB by 2030, making cascade utilization a key driver for China’s green energy transition and global sustainable battery supply chain.
