On August 23, 2025, India's Minister of Coal and Mining, G Kishan Reddy, announced that the central government plans to establish a mineral exchange modeled after the London Metal Exchange to centralized and make transparent the country's mineral pricing. Reddy said that the Mineral Trading Act is part of recently passed legislation, and relevant guidelines will be released soon.
The minister also underlined that efforts are underway to boost exports of coal, alongside plans to significantly scale up production of both coal and iron ore.
