It marks a new phase of collaboration in cutting-edge automotive display technologies.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 20, 2025, Geely Auto and XDMicro inaugurated a joint innovation laboratory, according to a post on XDMicro’s WeChat account. It marks a new phase of collaboration in cutting-edge automotive display technologies. The initiative is designed to strengthen both companies’ capabilities in research, development, and commercialization of advanced in-vehicle display systems.

Geely Auto, one of China's leading automakers with a growing global footprint, has built strong expertise in vehicle electronics, smart cockpit integration, and future technology planning.

XDMicro, meanwhile, is among the few companies worldwide with proprietary liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) microdisplay technology. Its self-developed LCoS display and driver chip is currently the only one certified under the global automotive reliability standard AEC-Q100, positioning it at the forefront of automotive-grade intelligent displays.

The new lab will combine Geely's strengths in vehicle platform definition and systems integration with XDMicro's technical leadership in LCoS, aiming to solve key challenges in automotive-grade LCoS applications and accelerate their wider adoption.

During the launch event, XDMicro Chairman Cen Yuanji welcomed Geely executives and experts, stressing that the company would leverage its expertise in automotive display technologies and its fully localized supply chain to ensure stable quality, reliable delivery, and continuous product upgrades that support a mutually beneficial partnership.

Ms. Li Li, Deputy Director of the Technical Planning Center at Geely Automotive Research Institute, expressed hopes that the joint innovation lab would enable both sides to expand their partnership, speed up technical breakthroughs, and move swiftly toward commercial deployment. Dr. Li Jinhua, Head of the Optical Laboratory at Geely Automotive Research Institute outlined the initial roadmap for the collaboration, while working teams from both companies held in-depth discussions on applying LCoS technology to new automotive use cases and strengthening cooperation on industry-wide innovations.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
