【SMM Steel】Mexico’s Undersecretary of Foreign Trade Luis Rosendo Gutiérrez Romano announced plans to re-establish a bilateral steel committee comprising government trade officials and steel industry representatives from Mexico and the United States. The move forms part of ongoing negotiations between the two countries regarding steel tariffs.

The proposed committee would resemble the former North American Steel Trade Committee under NAFTA, aiming to strengthen regional supply chain integration through public-private collaboration rather than relying solely on government-level talks.

The initiative comes amid continued discussions over US Section 232 tariffs, which currently impose duties of up to 50% on Mexican steel and aluminum imports.
