[SMM Lithium Battery Recycling News Flash] Princeton NuEnergy (PNE), a US-based battery recycling company, has opened a large-scale Advanced Black Mass (ABM) and cathode active material production facility in Chester, South Carolina. The plant can recover over 97% of materials from battery scrap and currently has a capacity of 5,000 tons per year, with plans to expand to 15,000 tpa in 2026 and eventually 50,000 tpa. The process involves mechanically breaking down used batteries, filtering out plastics and aluminum, and extracting black mass containing lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese. Through hydrometallurgy, these elements are refined into high-purity battery-grade materials for reuse.
