SMM August 20 News:

According to the latest customs data, in terms of galvanized sheets, the export volume in July 2025 was 1.1975 million tons. The cumulative export volume from January to July 2025 reached 8.1207 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 12.34% compared with 7.2284 million tons in 2024. Overall, China's galvanized sheet exports in July saw a limited increase compared with June

By country, the Philippines imported 137,800 tons of Chinese galvanized sheets in July, accounting for 11.5% and rising to the first place; Thailand imported 108,700 tons, with a share of 9.08% in exports, dropping to the second place; South Korea imported 91,300 tons, accounting for 7.63%, maintaining the third place. In terms of variables, the imports of Chinese galvanized sheets by countries such as Italy, Iraq, Vietnam, and Turkey increased significantly in July, while those by Thailand, Israel, and the Dominican Republic declined to varying degrees. With the mutual influence of increases and decreases, the overall export volume of galvanized sheets in July showed a limited growth compared with June.

SMM believes that the limited growth of galvanized sheet exports in July compared with June is due to the following reasons:

  • The prices of ferrous metals rose significantly in July, weakening the price advantage of galvanized sheet exports and affecting China's export volume of galvanized sheets.
  • The demand for galvanized sheets in Southeast Asian countries remains strong, and the export volumes to Vietnam, Thailand and other countries increased significantly in July.

Entering August, the prices of ferrous metals remain high, which has compressed the export profits of galvanized sheets to a certain extent. In addition, Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade officially announced in July that it would impose anti-dumping duties of up to 27.83% on some hot-rolled coil steel products originating from China. Affected by this, some galvanized sheet factories have seen a decline in export orders, and the export volume of galvanized sheets in August may drop month-on-month.
