Beijing Benz is preparing to launch production of the all-new all-electric Mercedes-Benz CLA model at its plant in Beijing E-Town.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Beijing Benz is preparing to launch production of the all-new all-electric Mercedes-Benz CLA model at its plant in Beijing E-Town, according to Beijing E-Town issued the news via its official WeChat account on August 18.

The Beijing E-Town site is one of the largest and most technologically advanced facilities in Mercedes-Benz's global manufacturing network, and remains the company's only passenger car production base in China. The plant is rapidly moving toward the milestone of six million vehicles produced since its establishment.

Scheduled to roll off the production line later this year, the all-electric CLA will become the 14th model built by Beijing Benz since its founding in 2005 and the completion of the factory in 2006. More importantly, it is the first locally produced BEV (battery electric vehicle) to feature Mercedes-Benz's in-house developed MB.OS architecture.

The new model measures 4,763 mm in length, 1,836 mm in width and 1,471 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,830 mm. Inside, the cabin adopts a connected screen layout that integrates a digital instrument cluster, central display, and a 14-inch passenger entertainment screen. It also comes with the fourth-generation MBUX infotainment system, which supports both voice commands and gesture controls.

On the driver-assistance side, Mercedes-Benz has tailored the new vehicle's technology to Chinese road conditions and driving habits, offering urban and highway navigation-assisted driving functions.

Built on Mercedes Benz' MMA platform, the all-new all-electric CLA uses an advanced 800V electrical system. Regulatory filings indicate it will be equipped with a single-motor setup delivering up to 200 kW of power, paired with a two-speed transmission. Under China's CLTC test cycle, the model is expected to achieve a driving range of up to 866 kilometers.

Pre-orders for the model opened earlier this month, with a market launch scheduled for autumn. Its start of production represents a major milestone for Beijing Benz's electrified vehicle lineup and underscores the model's role as a cornerstone in Mercedes-Benz's global electrification strategy.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
